Narrative 2

One Monday morning, a girl met a boy. It was the beginning of her freshman year and she was having many mixed feelings. There were new people, new classes, and a whole new environment in high school. She told her parents that she did not want to leave junior high and wanted to always have the same friends and the same teachers, but she knew that eventually things were going to change. High school is a big step for anybody and it can sometimes change everything in your life. A young, cute girl was very smart but not always when it came to boys. She always fell for the popular boys that were jocks and had tons of friends. Her one mistake was that she always rushed into everything with her emotions. She would talk to someone once then want to talk to them again all the time, and sometimes not every guy she met wanted to do the same thing. But this boy was different. He always listened to her and they started a great relationship that grew throughout the years. It started off when they hung out after school with a group of friends some days. They became best friends and told each other everything, no matter how ugly it was. They turned to each other for everything, and they never fought which was always a plus. They were talking one day about how they were both the same person and they would probably be the perfect couple, but they would both just laugh about it and were never entirely serious about it. Finally one day, this girl gathered the courage and decided to tell this tall, dark haired boy exactly how she felt. She woke up and started her daily routine by showering, brushing her teeth, getting her school stuff together then heading downstairs to eat breakfast. As she was getting ready she was going over and over in her head what she was going to say to him, and when she was going to say it. She thought, what if I get turned down? What if he sees me as a sister? Anything could happen. First period was math which they did not have together but second period was study, which they did. She finally found the words to say in math before the bell rang and she rushed to room 214 and he saved a seat next to her. He had a big smile on his face which made her very happy and more comfortable. As she began to speak, the boy beat her to it and simply said..I met a girl this weekend and she is perfect. She was exactly his type and they hit it off right away. As he went on and on talking about this other girl, she thought to herself..what about me? I thought you liked me. Maybe she was oblivious or maybe she was getting the wrong signs from him. But they did everything together and he said she was the only girl he could ever care that much about. It was hurtful and she felt like she had to give up. As freshman and sophomore year passed, this boy had still been dating the same girl he met that weekend and the girl was still lonely, but junior year was coming and this girl was determined to get him back into her life like old times. She would do anything for him, and she would not give up until he was hers. It was not obsession it was love. She loved him for who he was and she could not just get over it. He was a senior while she was a junior and the prom was only a few weeks away. Not to be immature but to see his reaction, the girl pretended to want to go with someone else that she was good friends with but had no feelings for. She decided to tell him in math class and he did not say anything after she told him. She did not understand what he was thinking but she knew he was not too happy about it. The girl got a phone call at 11:30 one Wednesday night and her cell said best boy friend, not best boyfriend just boy that was a friend, and that’s what his name was under in her cellphone. He called her extremely upset because his girlfriend broke up with him. She thought that his head and his heart was not completely in it so she did not want to waste her time anymore. He was crushed but could not go to prom alone..so he decided to ask this girl. She said she would think about it and would have to talk to the other boy she has been talking too. Deep down this girl knew that she was definitely going to go with him no matter what so the next day she just decided to walk up to his locker and she cheerfully said yes. Prom night was only a week away so they went to the mall and got everything ready, and it seemed like they were a couple but they were still just friends. The night finally came and this girl was gracefully waiting on her porch in her rose red sparkling dress, it was beautiful. He picked her up in his convertible and gave her red roses to walk in with, with her dress. As the night went on they were slow dancing and college came up. He was leaving at the end of the summer and the girl would still be in high school. He always said he would go to college free and not have to worry about being tied down, but with this girl it was different. He wanted to be with her and only her, and it took for him to not have her in his life at all times for him to finally realize it. Even though he would be hundreds of miles away his feelings would never change. The summer began and they were together everyday, but finally that summer came to an end. He packed his bags and was on his way to a new chapter in his life. They wrote each other every week and a fast senior year went by, then came June. She was finally graduating and she would be attending the same college as this boy. It was a rocky road but in the end it was always meant to be.

Narrative 1

Over the past year I have become close with many different people that I never really talked to before. While becoming close with them and growing older a lot of things have changed and people have left, not completely just for a certain period of time. I have an older friend who went into the army when he was eighteen years old. He came home in December for Christmas and New Years but then he was sent back to Virginia. The last time I saw his face was in March for 3 days and that was the last time I would see him until he was 21 years of age.
A lot of people don’t understand why young teens force themselves into the army when it can ruin your life, or even end it for good. But I believe that if someone is willing to fight for their country and the people they love then why not love them for that. It shows their dedication and courage to the world we live in and how much better it could be.
Over Christmas break there was a falling out between two good friends of mine. They had an immature fight over something that should never ruin a friendship, but for the two weeks we were all together it almost did. It was an awkward and miserable situation for the 7 people that were only looking for a good time that turned into a drama filled vacation. It began with one girl and ended with 3 people that were alone and had no words to waste on one another. The army kid did not understand why this had to happen during the one long vacation he had to spend with the people he was the closest with, but he figured he could give them all advice and try to make the best of the situation.
In mid argument the army kid stood up and decided to almost make a toast or speech or something. He set down his phone that he was texting on and the drink he was sipping from and said I have three words for you that have meant a lot to me since the day I left for my plane to my base when my life had changed forever in just one day. He simply said, those three words are peace, love, and happiness. That is what my life consists of now. What is the point of not getting along and not working through things together? He asked a confused looking teenager sitting across the living room. You can’t always get through everything yourself, no matter how much you want to. There was no point of arguing over something that meant nothing to either of the kids anymore.
This day changed my life and the way I look at situations around me, and how I can resolve them and keep the least amount of fighting in the world around me. Just from three words I have had less drama and worry about each day ahead of me. Peace and love is the key to happiness.

Critique 3

This image is called “Peace and Love” by Sunset Drive. The Medium of this picture is a photograph taken in black and white. The subject matter is two key chains, one is a peace sign and the other one is a heart. They are placed next to each other which shows peace and love and how they unite. I thought it was interesting how this picture is very shaded but it draws your attention by the lighting towards the middle and the right. I also liked how you can’t really tell it’s a peace sign but then you look more into detail and see that it is a peace sign and a heart next to each other, they just made it more tilted so you focus more on the photo. The hue in this photo is how the background is darker than the whole picture but the front and center is lighter with a shade surrounding it. The value of both light and dark is used and makes the photo more noticeable. The juxtaposition and harmony of peace and love is noticed by when the two key chains are placed next to each other but in different positions so they are not exactly the same. By the shades and placement of the objects this photo is subtle because at first not everything is obvious but it makes you more interested to see what the image consists of and what it means. There is no tone in this picture, it is just black and white, but I think that makes this darker but it has more meaning of how peace and love can be spread around the world through people and places, and how it hasn’t throughout the years. The focal point of this image would be the light shining down in the center that leads up to the peace sign and heart. This caught my eye first because it is the most obvious part of the picture and your eyes are attracted to the front before the back. The content of peace and love would be how people are trying to make others feel for it, and believe in it. I believe that everyone should have faith in peace and love and it should be spread throughout people everywhere. I enjoyed the form of this picture because I like how the examples are not centered but you still notice them very quickly. It almost looks like the photographer went underneath to under eye level and took this photograph which also makes it very unique and different. The emphasis of this picture is not very noticeable at first after noticing the lighting you notice the peace and love and how it is placed next to each other with importance and it shows a good meaning. When looking at this image the first thing I thought of was the realism that was put into this and how all the effort is shown when he was taking the photograph. This photo to me is very real and when I focus on it I understand what it means and why this person shared this photograph with others.
The focal point in this photo is the bright white lighting that is the first thing you notice then you focus more on the black background that surrounds it with the objects. My first thought of this image was how it was black and white with all different values that compliment peace and love. The obvious narrative of this photograph is peace and love because there are two key chains and one is a peace sign while the other is a heart which represents love. They are also placed next to each other which shows relation and how the photographer is trying to explain the meaning of peace and love. The pigment of this photo makes this picture very interesting and eye catching. I believe this photograph is better in black and white than it would be in color just because with the compliments of the shading makes this picture more real and appealing.

Love Poem

"A Walk To Remember"

Love is patient, love is kind.
Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud.
Love is not rude, is not selfish,
and does not become angry easily.
Love does not remember wrongs done against it.
Love is not happy with evil, but is happy with truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails..

"True Love"

True Love
True love is a sacred flame
That burns eternally,
And none can dim its special glow
Or change its destiny.
True love speaks in tender tones
And hears with gentle ear,
True love gives with open heart
And true love conquers fear.
True love makes no harsh demands
It neither rules nor binds,
And true love holds with gentle hands
The hearts that it entwines.

"A White Rose"

The red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
O the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.
But I send you a cream-white rosebud
With a flush on its petal tips;
For the love that is purest and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips.

By: John Boyle O'Reilly (1844-1890)

"The Notebook"

*I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough. --Noah

*It was an improbable romance. He was a country boy. She was from the city. She had the world at her feet, while he didn't have two dimes to rub together. --Duke

*Summer romances begin for all kinds of reasons, but when all is said and done, they have one thing in common. They're shooting stars, a spectacular moment of light in the heavens, fleeting glimpse of eternity, and in a flash they're gone. --Noah

Peace Poem

"Longlive Peace"
By: Shik Mds

Peace is all we want
Peace is all we need
Peace is all we ask
Peace is all we desire

There’s something we should do
That’s not been done
Something we can win
That’s not been won
Something we can shout out
To end all the brutal war games
We Want peace

Case for war was fake,
Don’t let it fade
More lives can be saved
Got to be brave
Something we can shout out,
We want peace, and we want it right now
Talking is Free

All we hunger is Peace
All we miss is Peace
All we lack is Peace
Peace is all we want

Peace is all we ask
It’s not a big task
Believe me
It’s easy.

Peace is all we want
Peace is all we need
Peace is all we want
Peace is all we need

All we wish is peace..please

Lyrics

"Peace And Love"
By: Fountains of Wayne

Peace and love
Peace and love
That's all I'm thinking of baby
Peace and love

Riding around in a Volkswagen van
Thinking 'bout the people upside-down in Japan
Staring at the stars in a distant galaxy
Wondering if there's someone out there staring back at me singing

Peace and love
Peace and love
That's all I'm thinking of baby
Peace and love

Lying on the floor just playing my guitar
Trying to find the chords for "Just The Way You Are"
Plane crash flashing on my TV
Well it could have been you, baby
It could have been me

We'll never live forever
But baby things could be worse
Cause when we get together we are one with the Universe

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont
Open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant
Got crazy karma, never harmed a single soul
So if you want to join me then together we'll grow old singing

Peace and love
Peace and love
That's all I'm thinking of baby
Peace and love

"Peace of Mind"
By: Boston

Now if you're feelin' kinda low 'bout the dues you've been paying
Future's coming much too slow
And you wanna run but somehow you just keep on stayin'
Can't decide on which way to go
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I understand about indecision
But I don't care if I get behind
People livin' in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind

Now you're climbin' to the top of the company ladder
Hope it doesn't take too long
Can't cha see there'll come a day when it won't matter
Come a day when you'll be gone

I understand about indecision
But I don't care if I get behind
People livin' in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind

Take a look ahead, take a look ahead, yeah, yeah, yeah

Now everybody's got advice they just keep on givin'
Doesn't mean too much to me
Lot's of people out to make-believe they're livin'
Can't decide who they should be

I understand about indecision
But I don't care if I get behind
People livin' in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind

Take a look ahead, take a look ahead. Look ahead.

Biography

Hugo Van Der Goes:

South Netherlandish painter who represents a change in the realism and spirituality expressed in Flemish art, while synthesizing the influence of the artists of the previous generation.
It is thought that Hugo was born in Ghent, although he may have trained elsewhere. Similarities suggest that he may have been a pupil of Dieric Bouts in Louvain. He was enrolled as a master in the Ghent guild of painters in 1467 , under the sponsorship of Joos van Wassenhove , and in 1468 he went to Bruges to work on decorations for the wedding of Charles the Bold and Margaret of York. In subsequent years he had similar civic and ducal commissions in Ghent. In 1474 – 5 he was appointed dean of the painters' guild, and in 1480 he was asked to evaluate the Justice panels in Louvain, left unfinished on the death of Bouts.
Little evidence survives on which to base a chronology of Hugo's works, although a small diptych (Vienna, Kunsthist. Mus.) may be an early work. It depicts, unusually, the Fall of Man and the Deposition, the latter reminiscent of Rogier van der Weyden in its physical expressions of grief.
The only surviving authenticated painting is the Portinari altarpiece ( c. 1473 – 8 ; Florence, Uffizi), a massive triptych commissioned by the Florentine merchant Tommaso Portinari for S. Maria Nuova , Florence. The central panel shows the Adoration of the Shepherds, a scene witnessed by the patron's family and saints on the wings. The entire composition is unified by an extensive, wintry landscape containing distant narrative details. In contrast, the main figures are substantial and remarkably lifelike, the rustic shepherds as individualized as any portraits. The focus of this realistic scene is an intensely spiritual act of adoration of the naked Christ child, who lies upon the ground in a pool of light, surrounded by praying figures and a still life which symbolically alludes to his sacrifice.
Hugo's unique fusion of realism and visionary drama may derive from his own religious and mental state. By 1478 he had become a lay brother at the monastery of the Roode Kloster , near Brussels, and subsequently suffered from mental illness and delusions of damnation. The Death of the Virgin (Bruges, Groeningemus.), with its bleak setting and cold colours, is stark and melancholy. It might reflect the artist's own anguish towards the end of his life, sharing the grief of the apostles, who gaze out at us from the painting.

“May all beings be filled with peace and love; may no harm befall any being.”

Natural blessing sun
Present all over the earthas well as the remote, removed
And though not quite desolate but calmly isolate;
Kind embracing sun
(You as loving as sister rain)
That never fails to come again
Though changes may cause some days of absence;
Dear, dear being of light and rays
That kisses cheeks in the morning
And warm uncovered heads and chests come again
Shine too on our land and over our roofs
Back each morning and bring us
Also joyous day and all your growth blessings
For our land and our children, and we too,
Life and beings all, with all our needs and desires,
And for the ants and the field-mice and the creatures in the burrows too
For we are all in need of your love always..

Critique two

This painting is called "Hand Heart" by Jaison Cianelli. The medium or media of this painting is pencil then Cianelli digitally cropped, scanned, manipulated, and finished it. The subject matter of this image would be people giving and showing love between others. There are two hands that come together as a heart and that also connects to peace and love within people.
There are many different visuals used in this painting. Some that catch your eye right away would be the color and the texture of the picture. Right when I looked at this picture I noticed that the colors were kind of darker and the hands almost have a dirty look to them. I thought this was very interesting and it caught my eye. The tone and harmony of the picture is also very dull but has very nice shadings and colors in the center of the picture. The balance is symmetrical because each hand is going in the same way and everything is the same size. The value in this picture is light and dark because the center of the hands is very dark but the hands are a lot lighter. The first thing I noticed was the realism and subject matter in this painting. Once you look you see the heart that the hands are forming it it's obvious that it is showing love between people. Some people may have trouble interpreting the painting but the focal point of what I can see is the heart in the persons hands. The content of this picture made me realize what people look for in others. This image shows love that someone has for someone or something else, and it also shows that they believe in love. I really liked the proportion because I like how everything is centered and it is put together very well. The emphasis in this picture is also where the darkness is in the heart which makes it more obvious and noticeable.
The focal point in this painting is in the center of the hands which is the heart. I believe it draws peoples attention the most because it is darker. The second thing I noticed after the heart was that there were hands forming the heart. I liked the way this looked and I thought it made it a lot more interesting. The obvious narrative of this painting would be love. I think love is the most obvious because there is hands forming a heart, and whenever there is a heart involved in something it represents love. I liked how the painting was almost like a sepia color. Not many paintings are that color and I feel like it made the painting more attractive. The shading and texture of this painting was also done very well. Overall I think this painting by Jaison Cianelli was very strong and effective.

Critique one

For my painting I chose "Peace & Love" by Paul Stanley. I thought that this painting related to my concept because I am doing Peace and Love. The medium or media would be paint. Looking at this piece I noticed that he used different paints and also used different tools to make it more eye catching. The subject matter of this image is peace signs and hearts which makes the title pretty self explanatory. When I was choosing a picture I wanted to look for a painting that you could glance at and already know what the meaning was, and I feel that this painting by Stanley was the perfect fit.

In "Peace & Love" there are many different visuals to notice and look for. Some I found were tone, shape, harmony, texture, color, and hue. I chose these because to me they seem to be the basics that make the painting beautiful and interesting. Others that I studied and noticed in the picture were field, balance, emphasis, juxtaposition, render, and narrative. These visuals show more of what the image is made of and based on, but the first six visuals are more of what the image shows and how it is presented. For example, the color of the painting is very bright and eye catching and the balance is symmetrical and each box is the same size. Both terms mean different things but they all fit together to create the painting.

The narrative in this piece is Peace and Love. This is shown by the peace signs in one lined section and the hearts in the other. The meaning to me shows how people can think about peace within others and loving one another more. This painting shows different kinds of peace and love and how they can be presented by color and overall image. I believe the focal point of this painting is the 1st series has a smaller inner heart and peace sign then as each of them go down they get bigger. This shows how peace and love can grow overtime. In conclusion I think the colors in this painting catch your eye along with the texture around it, and I think people focus on the image more because of the color and texture. Also, since they are paying more attention because they are attracted to it they look more into it to find a story and meaning like I have.

Peace & Love

My concept is Peace and Love. I declare this as my concept because I believe that peace and love are the greatest essentials in life. In my opinion I think when you have only peace and love with the people around you it is an overall good living environment. When I argue or get into a big fight with someone I feel like the opposite of love, not hatred but a dislike because arguing is never a good thing. Fighting with a family member or best friend makes me feel unloved even though I know I’m not, and that is something else that I don’t like to feel. I believe that everyone should have faith in peace and love and spread the word.
Many people don’t believe in peace anymore because of plenty of different personal or political reasons. I believe that one of the main reasons is because of the war in Iraq. People have lost respect for others over verbal and physical pain that they have caused in this world we live in. Love to me is something that everyone should feel and have in their life. Some people that don’t believe in love may not realize what a big part in life they’re missing.
A movie that relates to peace and love is Woodstock, directed by Michael Wadleigh. This movie is about the Woodstock music and art festival in Bethel, NY, in 1969. This movie is a vibrant attitude of youth and rebellion. It brought together different types of bands who played different tones of music and the people at Woodstock lived off of drugs, rain, peace and love.
The song “Peace and Love” by Neil Young explains how people find the inner truth of others around them and how much better it can make an individual feel.

Peace and love, only a ride. Strength is gone, dying inside. Tell me now, what did you find? Found love in the people. Living in a sacred land. Found love in the people, peace and love…
